Linda Jordaan is CEO of Herold Gie and a qualified conveyancer, practising in the highly competitive arena of property law.
As CEO, she focuses on the business strategy and the future growth of the firm and ensures that the firm adapts its business to meet modern industry trends, whilst retaining the integrity of the firm and providing personal and professional service to clients who form the cornerstone of its business. As a property lawyer, her practice includes the drafting of contracts, subdivisions of land, negotiations with developers and advising on sectional title schemes. Her specialisation in tax law benefits those clients who need advice on the tax implications of particular property transactions.
Linda is a Stormers supporter, a motor racing fan, enjoys travel and stimulates her creative side with music, the arts and singing in a small group called the Magnificats.

Karin MacKenzie heads up our new Pension Law Department, having served at the Office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator since 2001. She held the position of Senior Assistant Adjudicator since 2004, and was responsible for drafting many of the landmark determinations issued by that office in recent years.
Karin has published extensively on issues of topical interest, and has presented lectures and seminars on many aspects of pension law. She is currently studying for an LLM in Constitutional Law, and hopes to combine her knowledge of pension law with this field in her dissertation.
Prior to her specialization in this area, Karin practiced as an attorney with Francis Thompson and Aspden before joining the Cape Bar as an advocate in 1998. She has also served as an arbitrator.
Karin trained as a classical musician prior to commencing her law studies, and still finds in it a delightful refuge. Her latest set of wheels is a Yamaha grand piano

Richard Moffat is a director of the firm, has been in practice since 1980 and is a specialist property attorney. His practice covers all aspects of property law including general conveyancing, both conventional and sectional title, servitudes, mortgage bonds, Notarial bonds, agricultural property agreements and joint venture agreements and advice on the legal aspect of property development.

David Lotz registered for 5 years of articles in 1963 and passed the equivalent in diploma form, as it then was, of a B. Proc. Degree. He was admitted as an Attorney and Conveyancer in 1968 and shortly thereafter as a Notary Public. He has been practising conveyancing for 40 years and has specialised in all technical aspects of property registration. He has been a Conveyancing examiner, for more than 25 years and still serves in that capacity.
David was a member of Round Table until 1980 and since then, a member of Rotary (Signal Hill Club), a member of the Board of Kelvin Grove Club for 6 years. He has also served on the Executive Committee of Cape Mental Health for over 25 years.
His hobbies are playing tennis, hiking, travelling; both local and international, and he is somewhat of an amateur philatelist.

Stefan le Roux joined Herold Gie in 2003. He specialises in all aspects of Property Law including drafting of agreements of sale, tax implications and planning, subdivisions, property finance, developments, sectional titles.
His business minded approach together with an appetite for the tax and financial implications of any transaction is invaluable to his practice. His practical, efficient and effective solutions to complex issues adds immense value to his practice and service. He believes that there is an acute desire in the marketplace for the traditional family attorney and he consciously makes an effort to be available and approachable at any given time.
He has acted as a part-time lecturer for Unisa in the past, as a news reader for the Cape Town based classical radio station, Fine Music Radio (FM 101.3) and an ad hoc translator. His interests include travel, arts & culture, food & wine.

Lawrence Whittaker is a senior attorney with experience in all areas of commercial law and specialised expertise in major corporate contracts including Acquisitions; Joint Venture and Development Agreements; BEE Transactions and Banking Securitisation Agreements. He also has considerable experience in Intellectual Property matters including copyright and trade marks as well as the area of Family and Business Trusts.
Lawrence has a special interest in Sports Law including Constitutional and Administrative Issues; Event Management Agreements; Trusts and Sponsorship Agreements. His knowledge and expertise here arise from his experiences as both a cyclist and former winner of The Argus Cycle Tour as well as the many sports administration posts he has held including that of President of the National Federation for Cycling in South Africa.

Nicole Greyling completed law school at UCT and thereafter commenced articles at Herold Gie where her focus was commercial law and litigation. In March 2007, she was admitted as an attorney, notary and conveyancer and appointed as an associate in the commercial department . She has recently completed a part-time LLM in Commercial Law from UCT focussing on Corporate Governance.

Taryn Loynes practices as a member of the firm's Commercial Law Department alongside Lawrence Whittaker and Nikki Greyling. After completion of both BCom and LLB degrees, Taryn spent three years in the corporate banking world of London gaining valuable experience. Henry Stubbings, an experienced litigator in the wider commercial arena is also a specialist in the law relating to banks, securities, insolvency and credit transactions. His expertise includes the law relating to bills, cheques and notes, letters of credit, guarantees, suretyships, notarial bonds and other forms of security as well as all types of disputes concerning fixed property. He has a wide knowledge of banking, financial intelligence, credit and consumer protection legislation and has considerable experience in representing both creditors and liquidators in Enquiries convened in terms of the Companies and Insolvency Acts.

John MacRobert heads up the Employment and Public Law Department. He has served as an Acting Judge in the Labour Court on two occasions and also has many years experience as a mediator, arbitrator and trainer, being accredited in all three areas. He has taught Labour Law and Appropriate Dispute Resolution (ADR) on the combined UCT, Stellenbosch and University of the Western Cape post graduate programs. He is a founder member of the SA Labour Law Society (SASLAW) both nationally and in the Western Cape, and is a former President of the Cape Town Attorneys Association. He serves on the Cape Law Society Specialist ADR Committee. His clients include Local Government, Bargaining Councils, numerous parastatal entities, and companies and corporations both large and medium sized, located in a range of sectors across the economy. He has also acted for and against senior executives. His other areas of expertise and interest include pension and education law. He is a member of the Western Cape Committee of the Pension Lawyers Association. He is listed in PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook 2008 (and in previous editions) as a highly recommended individual in labour and employee benefits.
A number of his matters have been high profile, successful and have been reported in the Law Reports both in the High Court and in the Supreme Court of Appeal, including: the Oudekraal matter in which he acts for the South African Heritage Resources Agency; for the City of Cape Town when one of the representative unions unsuccessfully challenged the establishment of the Municipal Police Services; and the Grove Preparatory School/MEC for the Western Cape Education matter, in which the right of school Governing Bodies to recommend teachers for appointment was upheld.
His hobbies and interests include jogging on the mountain, long boarding, reading and theatre and relieving stress through playing guitar, harmonica and singing in a garage rock 'n roll and blues band.

Portia Genqese commenced her articles with Herold Gie Attorneys and through the firm's rotation system has gained experience in the firm's property, matrimonial and general litigation department. She also heads the Herold Gie's internal publication as the chief editor and specialises in the Employment and Public law department.
She was admitted as an attorney of the High Court in February 2008 and will commence her studies towards a Master's Degree in Labour Law in 2009.

Renée van den Heever heads the firm's Family Law Department. She specialises in all spheres of Family Law and has extensive experience in divorce matters, representing clients in settlement negotiations relating to the division of assets and the determination of the best interest of children as far as primary residence, maintenance and contact arrangements are concerned. She also has substantial knowledge and experience of Commercial Recoveries. This is a qualification not only valued by her corporate clients but also by her divorce clients. Peter Davis has vast experience in the fields of the drafting of Wills and Trusts, the administration of deceased estates, estate planning and trust administration. Peter is also an experienced conveyancer. He is head of the firm's Wills, Trusts and Estates Department.

Lungelo Terence Matiwane served his articles at Herold Gie Attorneys and was admitted as an attorney and conveyancer in 1997 and 1998 respectively. He holds a B. Iuris and LL.B from the University of the Western Cape. To ensure a rounded experience he then served various government departments (National Prosecuting Authority, Asset Forfeiture Unit), Transnet and the S.A Revenue Service (Organised Revenue Crime Unit- ORCU) specializing in forensic investigations and also received fraud-specific training through various agencies and Kroll International. He was involved in many high profile investigations, including one where evidence was found of a fraudulent scheme under which the errant company benefited by R19 million to the prejudice of the S.A Revenue Service. He was also involved in an extensive fraud investigation that lead to the sequestration of the estate and assets of a financial director.
In 2005 Herold Gie Attorneys, of which Lungelo Terence Matiwane is a partner, established Matiwane Gie Forensic Investigations (Pty) Ltd. Lungelo Matiwane is the managing director with Herold Gie Attorneys holding a minority stake.

Alastair heads the insurance department and has specialised as a litigator in this field since 1985. Clients include a number of well known insurance companies and underwriting managers as well as private individuals. From 1997 to 2003 he held the position of CEO of Herold Gie and is currently the firm's Financial Director. A keen league tennis player, he has served the Pinelands Club as Men's Captain from 2004 to 2008. He is also a member of the Ski Club of S A (Matroosberg) and the Mowbray Golf Club.

Lindi Wademan heads the firm's Family Law Department focusing on all aspects of family law. Her specialist skills give a great depth to the firm in the services that we offer, including divorce, ante or post nuptial agreements, civil union and domestic partnership agreements, court applications for contact or primary residency of minor children, maintenance applications and protection orders. Tarryn Woods graduated with an LLB degree from the University of Stellenbosch in 2004 and completed her articles in the same town. In 2008 she graduated as a part-time student of the Louis Group International Business Academy.
